ATFL Congratulates Ambassador Richard on Confirmed Appointment

The American Task Force for Lebanon is pleased to congratulate Ambassador Elizabeth Holzhall Richard on her confirmation as Ambassador of the United States of America to the Lebanese Republic. Ambassador Richard was appointed by President Barack Obama in February of this year and officially confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 17, 2016. In her confirmation hearing, Ambassador Richard listed the three biggest challenges to Lebanon’s stability as the refugee crisis, current political impasse, and Hezbollah. She believes the United States should partner with Lebanon’s legitimate government institutions and provide the aid necessary to overcome these challenges. Ambassador Richard also hopes to expand trade between Lebanon and the United States and to promote U.S. exports to Lebanon through her new role.

Ambassador Richard previously served in Washington, D.C. as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Assistance Coordination within the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. A career foreign service officer, her most recent foreign assignment was at the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, where she served as Deputy Chief of Mission. Her previous assignments include that of Border Coordinator in Islamabad, Pakistan; Director of Counternarcotics and Civilian Police Training Programs in Afghanistan; and Deputy to the Special Ambassador for War Crimes Issues.

The American Task Force for Lebanon looks forward to working closely with Ambassador Richard and wishes her well in her new appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Lebanese Republic.
